PART 2: BEST FOODS TO TACKLE DIABETES
Now you’ve read part one, let’s take a look at part two of our guide on the best diet for men approaching 50.
Think about diabetes, and most of us have the image of a relatively harmless condition which can be easily controlled by checking our blood sugar levels several times a day. The truth, however, is that diabetes can be a fairly nasty condition and lead to potentially much more serious problems such as heart disease and kidney damage. So as a man approaching 50, how can you protect yourself? In this blog, we talk about the best foods for men with diabetes.
BEST DIET FOR MEN APPROACHING 50 WITH DIABETES
Brown rice. Brown rice is good at keeping diabetes at bay. It contains fiber which may help reduce blood sugar spikes and hunger pangs. This is according to a report published by the Archives of Internal Medicine.
Watercress. Watercress is loaded with nutrients compared to other greens. It is believed to be this very property which proved in a published study that regular consumption can reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Whole milk. You may not have expected this one, but milk can, in fact, help reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes thanks to the vitamin D and calcium contained within. It has been suggested that people who eat a high-fat dairy diet have less chance of developing diabetes.
Broccoli. Although not directly responsible for tackling diabetes it’s self, because broccoli contains an inflammation-reducing compound, it can reduce side effects of the condition such as damaged blood vessels. Although not a favourite of many men approaching 50, add to stir-frys or pasta for easier consumption.
Guava. This tropical fruit contains all of the daily vitamin C intake required. Something which may help reduce the occurrence of diabetes. This makes this fruit one of the best foods for men approaching 50. Just be sure to pair it up with some protein such as cheese or nuts. This is to even out blood sugar levels.
